Last evening (28 July 2025) several 312 brethren visited The Glasgow Star and Southern Cross Lodge No. 219 and witnessed an interesting masonic evening.
The Lodge is over the motorway a stone-through from Ibrox stadium in an impressive large 19th century three storey building. This Lodge is unusual in that the brethren stay seated. This comes from the lodge’s origins of having primarily disabled brethren.
IPM Bro. Thomas J Campbell PM, DSC, SM Bro. David Stevenson PM, DSC, WJW Derek A. Robertson and Tyler Bro. Sam Harris PM attended. Also there from outside the Province were some 312 friends namely Honorary Member Bro. Dougie Wilson PM, Bro. Bruce Barnie PM from Lodge Blairhoyle No. 792. And from inside the Province several well-kent brethren including Bros. Brian Wright PM and Thomas Ballingham PM from Lodge Ancient Stirling 30 and PGS Bro. Robert Hunter PM from Lodge Clackmannan No. 1303. More than these, were several who were at our Lodge on Saturday including the deputation leader RWM Bro. Mark McLuskey of Lodge St. Leonard (Loanhead and Lasswade) No. 580, in the Province of Midlothian.
After the opening and business, a deputation from Lodge Craigends (Linwood) No. 1042 in the Province of Renfrewshire East, headed by their RWM Bro. William J. Fleming entered the Lodge followed by a deputation of nine from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Glasgow headed by WSPGM Bro. Adam Provan. Two presentations then ensued. Bro. Provan gave dates and some insight into each brothers’ involvement in freemasonry. He then presented Bros. Kenneth Graham PM and Bill McPherson PM with 50-year diplomas. Both recipients spoke for several minutes about their masonic careers, with Bro. McPherson, now a 30-year resident in Canada and a Past Master in both countries. It was revealed that both men are related as Brothers-in-law as well as masonic brothers!
The packed lodge room succumbed to overheating as the lodge fans malfunctioned, necessitating a welcome adjournment. Many brethren sought relief outside to ‘cool off’ and get some air!
On our return the degree team from Lodge Craigends (Linwood) No. 1042 conferred an excellent EA degree and so created The Glasgow Star Lodge’s newest Entered Apprentice.
Given the lateness of the hour, 312 departed form home. . . no time for the customary photos.
