A casual conversation at Lodge Dolphin 911’s rededication resulted in 312 mobilising to support to RWM Bro. Richard Kerry in his final week. And provide Master-elect Bro. Kenneth Shaw with a great start to his tenure.
It’s the Travelling Gavel. Instituted by our Past Master Bro. John Davidson, it promotes visiting in the Province of Stirlingshire. Essentially the largest deputation gets to take the Gavel for another Lodge then to go and get it.
And so to the casual conversation. Some of our brethren were lamenting that Bro. Kerry hadn’t claimed the gavel during his year. Some real time research discovered that Lodge Loch Lomond No. 1483 had it and coincidently were meeting five days later – two days before our Installation. Past Master Bro. David Stevenson made some enquiries before sending the call out to our brethren.
And so, on a dark, wet Thursday 4 December some 18 brethren from 18 to 82 made their way to Lodge Loch Lomond. There we joined their business meeting and witnessed the double act of Bro. Fraser Robb PM and PSGM Bro. John McKenzie install one another in the respective offices. At the conclusion RWM Bro. Iain Anderson thanked RWM Bro. Richard Kerry for brining such a large deputation. There was a moment’s silence before Bro. Anderson prompted, “You have to ask for it!” Bro. Kerry then asked for the Travelling Gavel which was duly handed over.
It now rests on our dais, ready for our Installation on 6 December and then awaits a large deputation from a sister lodge to come and ask for it.
