Honorary Member memorial fund

The Lodge is pleased to contribute to the memorial fund for Bro. Rev. Jim Landels.

Jim was the minister of the Allan Church, Bannockburn between 1990 and 2015.  During that time, he was greatly valued by his parishioners and the Bannockburn community.  His mother Lodge Bishopbriggs No. 1259 (in the Province of Glasgow) and his support to our lodge showed itself most significantly in 2014.

That year was the 700^th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn.  Jim was a great help in planning and hosting the most special, even unique, masonic event in the Allan Church.  On 20 June 2014 a procession walked from the Lodge to the Church where, in the presence of the Most Worshipful Grand Master Mason, the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master of Stirlingshire Bro. Andrew A. McKinnon led a degree team of Provincial Grand Masters from across Scotland.  They conferred a degree on Mr Scott John McCormick with Bro. Rev. Jim Landels joining the degree team as Chaplain.

In September 2015 Bro. Rev. Jim Landels received honorary membership from the Lodge for, “Sterling service in many respects, both masonically and to the local community”.

And so, when the Church invited us to contribute to a fund in Bro. Rev Landels’ memory, we answered their call.  The Church aims to raise £9,000 to replace their audio-visual system.  As Bro. Rev. Landels was the driving force of the current system it seemed fitting that this upgrade be done in his memory.  There is a series of fundraising events planned and a crowdfunding site for donors here. Keep an eye out for the memorial service at the Church on 4 October at 11:15am. All will be welcomed.

Lodge Master Bro. Kenneth R. Shaw recently presented our cheque to church elder Janet Stevenson.  She said, “The church really appreciates the donation from our neighbours at Lodge Bannockburn Bruce and Thistle No. 312.  We’ve had a relationship since our Church was built in 1838.  Their support is the latest expression of that neighbourliness.”

RWM Bro. Shaw added, “Bro. Rev. Landels was a hugely well-liked and respected part of our community.  He showed us all the clearest demonstration of Christian faith and masonic virtues.  We were very pleased to have been asked and to support his memorial fund.”
